I began my update last month with the term ‘Déjà vu’. Once more I feel in a similar state, but more like “Oh no not again”
The eagerly awaited update from the Senedd today confirmed that the restrictions already in place will remain for the foreseeable future and leaves us with the distinct impression that we will be experiencing a further Lockdown in Wales very soon after Christmas, possibly before New Year’s Eve. The length of this Lockdown, or whatever it is labelled as this time, is unknown, but any length will be to the further detriment of the Hospitality industry as a whole. However needs must if we are all able to enjoy some family time over Christmas.
Nanteos continues to operate, but in a reduced way. We are open for Bed and Breakfast from Thursday through to Saturday each week and begin our festive afternoon teas from early December each Sunday and Wednesday. We are once more pleased that our Christmas breaks have been well received and that we shall be welcoming guests for our usual relaxed traditional Christmas in luxury, but not so traditional social distancing and other COVID safe measures. The Mansion will be decorated during the last weekend in November with the highlight being the beautiful tree in reception.
We are constantly updating our new website which now has a video library of many of our memories since reopening and is soon to have a Blog and a very special insight into the mansion itself.
The autumnal colours of the leaves I referred to in October have given way to the leafless branches that starkly inform us that winter is well on it’s way.
I am reminded of the quote from Robert Pettit,
“The Cold is coming. December’s winter solstice. A new season begins”
Indeed the cold will come, let us hope not too cold and certainly not wet. The solstice is only about 4 weeks away as a write this and will deliver the lengthening of the days. The new season of course will be Spring, some weeks away , but still something to look forward to. It could also be interpreted this year as the increasing possibility of a vaccine with which we may at last be able to move forward with some normality.
Once more may I wish that you, your family and friends stay safe and well.
